1/9/10 Viewing Schedule – Why hoops weekends are great

For as great as the holidays are, the first full work week when you get back to your daily routine is pretty brutal. The past week has been a challenge to say the least. No more noon to midnight games. Gone are the days of rolling out of bed on a Wednesday, pouring a giant bowl of trix or frosted mini wheats and clicking the TV on to find a quality game of basketball worth watching. One example before I continue….

Earlier this week ESPN2 had Duke vs Iowa St played at the United Center. There are three things wrong with this game, the first being Duke. I enjoy hustle as much as the next hoops conisiour, but come on. Fist pumping aside and white guy man love, this was just weird. Iowa State seems interesting enough though. Except that it was played at the United Center on the Chicago Bulls home floor. So you’ve got blue and white Duke, Maroon and old Iowa State, along with the black and red floor and giant bull faces of the Chicago Bulls. Great. Who ever decided to put this game on TV needs to go back to the drawing board. It was not watchable.

Moving on, the weekends will now become a mecca of basketball greatness. You have Saturday, which is jam packed with games on TV nearly all day. Saturdays will soon include UNLV games for myself as soon as next weekend. Sunday will usually have a nice game or two on CBS, and you can usually find some ACC or Pac10 action on Fox sports at night when you’re reading, folding laundry, or doing what one does to get ready for the week ahead. The week ahead includes more basketball by the way, as you get Big Monday, and Super Tuesday to help you through the start of the work week. Do I need to remind you of this little slice of greatness?

Yeah. It’s good stuff.

This weekend I plan on waking up at 8:30 on Saturday morning (if my dog will let me sleep, and my wife can stop listening to the dahler mendi song on youtube) to catch some UConn and Hoya action at 9AM. Oh yes, I am on the west coast. No waiting until noon for hoop action for me. Giant bowl of cereal, super sweet stadium blanket courtesy of Sam and his ladyfriend, and the remote right when I get out of bed. Nothing like it. From here I’ll switch to 11AM games of Nova / Marquette and KState / Missouri. Missouri is gangster, and I really dig Kansas State after watching them roll dolo’s against UNLV last month. After these games, the special gal and I will head to a local establishment to watch a 1 PM UNLV and New Mexico tip, as Versus has decided to forsake my watching of them by getting in a fight with DirecTV.

BTW, It is a little bit of a shaft that shit ass Central and toledo get an espn360 game, while WMU does not.

It gets a bit dicey after the UNLV game, as I’m sure I’ll have to put in some quality time with my number one gal, although this is not a sure thing. If not, we’ll end up back home where I can fire up espn360 and catch the kids in the hall play Cincy.

I fully realize it is NFL playoff weekend, and I may search for a score on my cellphone. That’s about it.

Enjoy the weekend.
