#9 Teddy Dupay

Most spartan fans will always remember this guy as the son of a bitch who tried to take Mateen Cleaves out of the biggest game of his life with a cowardly cheap shot, but he is so much more than that. Some guys are dirty players, some players are bad people, some bad people are degenerate gamblers…Teddy Dupay is all of these things. Not only was he a member of Billy Donovan’s first final four team that was the national runner up in 2000 Dupay was also Mr. Basketball in the state of Florida and Billy Donovan’s first recruit. He had a bright future as a gritty (actually dirty), energetic, fan favorite little white guard at a new college basketball powerhouse. He was in the end brought down by his own scumbaggery, and his fall from BMOC to accused felon has been enjoyable to watch and very much deserved.

The lowlights:

·      In the midst of being outclassed in the 2000 National Championship Game and well behind Dupay viciously kicked out the leg of Mateen Cleaves under the basket in an obvious cheap shot injuring the star guards ankle.

·      In the fall of 2001 he left the Florida program after a campus wide athletics probe revealed he had been actively gambling on college sporting events including NCAA basketball. He had allegedly tried to recruit other members of the gator basketball program into a point shaving ring (according to their testimony), and at one point during a game told one of his teammates to pick it up because “I’ve got money on us.”

·      In 2003 while bouncing around the backwater minor leagues of professional basketball Teddy was charged with a DUI and evading arrest after he smashed into an off duty sheriff’s deputy while driving around toasted, and then attempted to flee the scene before piling his wrecked car into a utility pole.

·      In 2008 he was charged with rape, aggravated kidnapping and aggravated sexual assault. All of them major felonies. During his interview with the police Teddy commented that it isn’t possible to “rape someone you love.” I guess that will be for the jury to decide

·      In 2009 and beyond Teddy Dupay will be raped in jail by someone he does not love.

#10 Quinn Snyder

This muppet not only holds multiple degrees from Puke but is also the son in law of creepy old vagabond coaching curmudgeon Larry Brown.  Looking at his pedigree it was obvious that he was going to be an insufferable wrong. He went out of his way to live up to that suspicion by coaching the run and gun/ illegally recruited chuckers from Mizzou to a moderate level of success in the early part of this decade. The end of his reign was thoroughly enjoyable to watch as NCAA sanctions and poor on the court performances sent him out of college basketball and into the NBADL.

The lowlights:

· Missouri hired Snyder over two other finalists with mutual interest…John Calapari and Bill Self

· Ricky Clemons – This guy was the ultimate flash in the pan, undisciplined kind of street baller that needs to either be coached up or sent back to the playground to train for a career on the And1 circuit. Instead Snyder rode him to some tournament success before his behavior pulled the entire program down around himself.

In early 03 Clemons was arrested on charges of assault and battery and false arrest against his lady friend because apparently she didn’t want to watch the same movie he did.  When he gets sentenced and has to spend time in jail he talks about how he and other players were receiving payments from the coaching staff. During the ensuing investigation it turned out that he never should have been academically eligible in the first place. Oh and while out on bail he flipped over an ATV at a party being held at the then-university president Elson Floyd’s house. The university was further embarrassed by this guy when a recording of Floyd’s wife’s phone call with Clemons was made public. In the call she advised Clemons to “stay away from them crackers”, referencing his (white) girlfriend. Nice publicity for the University Quinn.

· After the Clemons scandal forced him to clean house/ cover his ass and blame his assistants Quinn went a spectacular 42-42 never making another NCAA tournament.

· After back to back NIT flops Snyder was photographed clearly wasted at Mardi Gras, denied it was him when questioned about the photo, and then later had to acknowledge he was at Mardi Gras yet still tried to deny that was him in the photo, before finally admitting it could have been him.

· While at the Maui invitational coached a game in sandals.

Since we have crowned college basketball’s champion in 2009 we now have closed out a full decade of college basketball this century. I think that now is a good time to take stock of what we have witnessed, and to point out that not everyone has been doing their part for this great sport that we love. In fact there have been many people who have done absolutely everything in their power to wrong up college basketball. Starting today I would like to recognize the top 10 wrongs who have put their whole effort into making college basketball less enjoyable for all of us from 2000-2009.
