Milwaukee, WI (Bradley Center)
After an excessive night of celebrating St. Patrick’s Day at a few local Kalamazoo pubs, The Trip geared up and broke out to Milwaukee, WI for the 1st and 2nd rounds of the tournament, played at the Bradley Center.
(6)Boston College vs (11)Utah – Just look at the box score. It was a brutal game to watch, but it was still a game nonetheless. I only remember Jared Dudley was underwhelming, and Bogut was giant. Game was close, but no upsets for us. Boston College 58, Utah 51.
(3) Georgia Tech vs (14) Northern Iowa – Nobody knew we were watching a Final Four team in the making. Considering they were nearly knocked off by Norther Iowa, you couldn’t blame us for not knowing. Still, no upsets. Georgia Tech 65, Northern Iowa 60.
(6) Wisconsin vs (11) Richmond – The collective of The Trip was genuinely pissed that Wisconsin could find itself with a home game as a 6 seed. richmond played well enough to win, but lost it going down the stretch. The entire Bradley Center crowd hung on every Devin Harris brutal runner in the lane. Dar. The trip strikes out again. Wisconsin 76, Richmond 64.
(3) Pittsburgh vs (14) Central Florida – At this time, Central Florida was big time, and a force to be known. The slowest paced game of the night, and the game was closer than the score suggests. Carl Krauser ground this game out from the line. Pittsburgh 53, Central Florida 44.
Off day activities in Milwaukee could only include one thing – beer. We decided to hike to the Miller Brewery, which now seems like it was 50 miles outside of town. While here, we confirmed that there is no special holding safe for Special Reserve, which made us all wonder why it would be referred to as Milwaukee’s Best, Special Reserve. Bonus was the free tasting bar they had at the end, and the bogus black and white tv with coat hanger sticking out the top of it, so we could get some updated tourney scores. We scrapped the walk back for a ride in a taxi to a local B-Dubs to watch the rest of the games, grab some foods, and recover from free beer and 50 mile hikes. Milwaukee has a nice river walk section downtown with a few nice pubs scattered through out. Of note is Moe’s, where Chet was solicited some illegal substances in the bathroom, the bar tenders are educated as to how to poor a beer properly, and the random stew they served was quite tasty.
Day Two featured two 3 vs 6 games. It was The Trip’s desire to not see Wisconsin advance to the sweet 16.
(3) Georgia Tech vs (6) Boston College – Close game for most of the way. Luke Sheerzerzerzer is a giant looking man. Georgia Tech was not impressive for a team that played in the title game this year. Georgia Tech 57, Boston College 54.
(3) Pittsburgh vs (6) Wisconsin – Devin Harris scored 21 points. Some wrong in a camo hat sat behind me talking about how much he loved him. It still did not matter, Pittsburgh sent the clowns back to Madison. Pittsburgh 59, Wisconsin 55.
