Tourney Trip has hit the road, as I am posting from sunny south-west Florida as the Lady Friend and I visit some family for the week. This does not mean I have forgotten about hoops. A few tidbits over the past week or so, and a look forward to the coming week:

Game Log #6 and 7. Hit up the second day of the Global Sports Classic in Las Vegas on November 29th to watch Vegas lose a winnable game vs Cincinnati and Florida State show some decent grit against a fast and talented Cal team. Good games, the second of which was played in a mostly empty gym. Something decent about watching a game in an empty building. Guys yelling “weak side” out and hearing the kicks squeak on the floor. It’s not bad. Disappointed in the Rebels and their showing here. You cannot waste chances to grab wins vs BCS division teams when you are supposedly trying to get to the big time and put your program back into the national hat. Even though they were out-sized against the Bearcats, they had a shot to win down the stretch. I suppose that’s all you can ask for.

Steph Curry had himself a nasty game vs West Virginia and still managed to make himself more like-able and still amazing. Couldn’t hit a shot all night, but ran the game on both ends the last 5 or 6 minutes of the game. Cool game to watch. Whats not to love about the Jimmy V speech either?

Seeing that I am on the road, I thought it’d be appropriate to take in a game on the road as well. You will find me in the stands of a home game for the Florida Gulf Coast University Eagles as they go to battle against the Fighting Camels of Campbell University this coming Saturday.

Looking even further ahead, Western Michigan visits Vegas this Sunday, and another mini tourney towards the end of the month.

Overall things are off to a decent start on my end. I am sorry Sam cannot say the same the past few days. The season is on its way toward meaningful conference games, where things usually take a turn for the better, so fear not if your prospects seem glum. You can also hope to bank on the late season hot streak and winning your conference tourney as well. It’s all good.

I was able to take in the majority of two games last night as the Global Sports Classic held here in Las Vegas winds up to its final games tonight. Florida State vs Cincinnati and UNLV vs California. California basically ran UNLV from the start with 3 point shooting and good defense. Refs had a few bad calls at the end which squashed a Rebel comeback, but thats beside the point. UNLV goes against Cincinnati tonight, with California and Florida State facing off for the championship of the Global Sports Classic.

Note to Las Vegas Basketball organizers. The Las Vegas Invitational is currently being held here in town at the same time as the Global Sports Classic. Why would you do this? Stagger them. Two different weekends. I would like to go to both. Thanks.

Western Michigan is coming to town December 14th. Special thanks to my lady friend and her parents for arranging our travel plans to allow us to be back in town to catch this game vs UNLV. I will be away for a week in December, but could not stand to miss this game.

Speaking of the Broncos, here’s to hoping they wake up soon and pull out a few non con games. Something tells me they are looking forward to the comfort of the conference schedule and the chance to start again. Trips to the tourney do not come easily.

More hoops today. I know these tourneys are a sham, but I just can’t help but get into it as its the beginning of the season, and whats not to love? It is basketball.
